2nd – 6th September 2002
1. Introduction
The 16th annual conference of the British HCI Group will be held in London, hosted by South Bank University, from 2nd to 6th September 2002. This will be a major gathering of practitioners, researchers and innovators working in all areas of interactive systems design, usability, multimedia applications and computer-mediated communication.
The organising committee comprises leading researchers and practitioners from UK and Europe, with a wealth of experience of organising and managing national and international conferences.
2. The Focus of the Conference
The major theme of the conference will be the exploration of theory, practice and experience in the design of effective and usable interactive systems which are "memorable yet invisible". Domains central to this theme include mobile and wearable devices, web-based applications, novel interaction techniques, communications and bandwidth issues, and extending the benefits accessibility and usability to everyone in the community.
The conference will present state-of-the-art research on interactive system design and specification, human factors, design for usability, usability evaluation techniques, emerging standards, the organisational impact of information and communication technology, HCI education and training, professional practice, and the promotion and future direction of the usability profession.
3. Opportunities
Support for the conference will provide a unique opportunity for your organisation to raise its profile and communicate its message to an international audience of leading-edge system designers, researchers, innovators and early adopters, who are open to new ideas, and in search of excellence.
Through the exhibition accompanying the conference your organisation or company will be able to present products, services, equipment and communication technology to a tightly defined and targeted audience.
Around 300 delegates are expected to attend, drawn from academic and industrial research, and from the software development, multimedia, human factors and communications sectors, with a strongly UK concentration, but including representatives other parts of Europe, North America, Africa and Asia.
4. Programme Orientation
State-of-the-art presentations of the latest research results and novel systems from leading research and development groups and laboratories throughout the UK and Europe, covering areas of wide current interest including mobile devices, multimedia and hypermedia, collaborative working, graphics and virtual reality.
