Reviewers

Call for Reviewers!

We would like to invite you to review for HCI2007: ‘HCI – but not a we know it’, the 21st British HCI Group annual conference, which will be held at Lancaster University this September.

We urgently need experts from all areas of Human Computer Interaction to join the review panel for Europe's largest annual English-speaking HCI conference.

The HCI community is deeply indebted to volunteer reviewers, and while there is no financial reward, we make a public statement of gratitude and acknowledgement by listing the names and affiliations of all reviewers in the opening pages of our proceedings, which are published this year by The British Computer Society.

Additionally we award a prize each year at the conference to the reviewer who, in the eyes of the programme chairs, has been the best reviewer.

Volunteer!

If you reviewed for HCI before you should already exist on the conference management system. However, to volunteer for reviewing you still need to log in. Typically, your email address is also your username. If you forgot the login details use the "Look it up" facility. A new password will be sent to you instantly. Note that usernames and passwords are case-sensitive.

Once you are logged in, follow the link to "reviewing preferences" at the top of your homepage and indicate the level of your expertise in each of the topic areas. Please do also indicate how many submissions you would be willing to review. As a guideline, 3 papers is a typical commitment at this stage.

Please note that if you intend to submit a paper to HCI 2007 you can do that using the same account.

The commitment would be for one or both of the following:

  • First call for participation: Reviewing for full papers, tutorials and workshops starts around 1 April, with reviews due back by 30 April.
  • Second call for participation: Reviewing for short papers, posters, panels and all other categories starts around 11 May, with reviews due back by 30 May.

How do I review papers allocated to me?

Once you have been notified of your allocations please log on to the review system where you can download papers and submit your comments online.

If you think you have been assigned a submission that is not in your area of expertise, or you feel that there is a conflict of interest, please

contact us immediately and we will change your allocation.

Please include, as part of your review, a clear indication of whether, in your judgement, the paper should be accepted for HCI 2007, and an explanation of the basis for your judgement. It is important to give constructive feedback on how the submission could be improved, regardless of the suggested decision. The review process itself should be self-explanatory but if you have any questions please direct them to

Peter Bagnall.

But... I have never reviewed before!

Nobody has the first time! Each year the British HCI Group is pleased to attract a number of first-time reviewers. If you have little previous experience of reviewing, we commend Allen S. Lee's guidelines. In fact, we would recommend a refresher for experienced reviewers as well!
