The School of Computing in Napier University, University is one of the largest teaching institutions in Information and Communications Technology in the UK, with around 1500 "full-time equivalent students". The recent QAA review found it to be commendable on all counts. The Multimedia and Interactive Systems Design teaching group, led by Dr Phil Turner, delivers HCI-related modules to a majority of students each year.
It's also an up and coming centre for quality research - in both Computing (RAE rating 3a) and Library & Information Management (RAE: 4). Among the active research groups, the ones of most interest to the HCI community are: The HCI Group (led by Professor David Benyon), The Social Informatic Group (led by Professor Lissie Davenport), The International Teledemocracy Centre (led by Professor Ann McIntosh).
All staff and students are located on the Merchiston Campus, a leafy suburb of Edinburgh next to fabled Morningside. The workshop is being held in the site's recently opened conference centre. Merchiston Campus is easy to reach by public transport and, while parking immediately next to the campus can be a problem in term time, there is ample free parking on nearby streets. This map shows routes into the city.
Also in the Merchiston Campus is the award-winning Jack Kilby Computing Centre - supplying over 500 up-to-date PCs for the student population
